Java Batik

It is said that "batik" originates from the Javanese word 'tritik' which describes a resist process of dying where patterns are created on textiles by tying and sewing areas prior to dying - very similar to tie dye techniques.

Samples of dye resistance patterns on cloth can be traced back 1500 years ago to Egypt and the Middle East but non are as developed in our current day as the intricate batik found on the island of Java in Indonesia.
